Given the effects of the global economic downturn, it is just right to be prudent in spending money. However, this should not keep you from redecorating your home, especially when necessity calls for it. No matter how simple a home is, as long as it is well kept and properly decorated, it will surely turn into the best place you want to live in.
One positive aspect of globalization and economic loss is the mass production of cheaper products to respond to the increasing needs of the masses that do not have enough money to buy these products in the past. I am personally thankful to this because it allows me to still buy the stuff I need without spending too much money. When working on a relatively limited budget, it will be good to plan everything before making any move. For example, I decided to paint my walls red without realizing that my old blinds were green and my door is off white. The paint in itself is already expensive so it was sad that I had to buy a new set of window blinds that will complement the colour of my walls. Since my budget was already running low, I needed to look for cheaper blinds with nice colour.
There is a huge selection of
I was in a dilemma. Should I choose a different colour? A white colour blind is available but it’s not a match to the trim and the door. If I will get it, I had to repaint the door and the trim. My other option was to buy blinds that match the walls instead. But finally, I decided to settle with the plain white window blinds. This time, it was cut just right. With 2 purchases, I still managed to be under budget so I decided to change the light switches so they match the newly painted walls.
I managed to install the blinds in less than thirty minutes. No, they didn’t match the room but I was able to save some bucks, so I guess I just have to be happy about it. The blinds were really cheap. And as I was happily thinking about how much I saved, I was also trying to pull the cord of the blinds to roll it up. Nothing happened. I kept on trying and making it work until the cord just went off. So now I had useless cheap blinds hanging on my windows – cordless. Well, I had to give up at some point and just be contented that I was under budget and my walls are red.
What was my lesson? Buying cheap products does not guarantee durability. However, I do not believe that all cheap products are low quality. In fact the place where you buy products is an important factor to consider. Of course, in some stores that offer better quality for the products they are selling, the price is a little bit higher; although still very affordable. Shopping for blinds at the local market is a great way of helping you decide what works well for your home. It allows you to have it as soon as you want to. However, a better option is offered online.
Online stores are very promising because they do not pay overhead costs like rent, salary, utilities, etc unlike the conventional stores. The department stores factor in all expenses in the products they are selling so the mark up is high. Many consumers prefer cheaper products to get the most quantity for their money. With this, manufacturers use cheap materials for manufacturing. But buying online allows you to buy directly from the manufacturers with the exact measurement you need. You just have to wait for weeks before getting your purchase. But, what is that compared to buying 2 useless cheap blinds? If you are going online, look for Hunter Douglas and other world renowned fabricators for a wide selection of blinds.
